As of April 1, 2020 - The Governor has instituted a "Stay at Home Order" - that continues to includes all 67 Pennsylvania counties. The order is effective through April 30, 2020. "Stay at Home" Guidance can be found here.

Pennsylvania is experiencing record-breaking unemployment applications - receiving over 980,000 claims since March15th. PWDA thanks Secretary Oleksiak, the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry and the local workforce development system for their rapid response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since March 16th, the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry has:

  • CREATED new bases for unemployment eligibility:
    • If your employer temporarily closes or goes out of business because of COVID-19
    • If your employer reduces your hours because of COVID-19
    • If you have been told not to work because your employer feels you might get or spread COVID-19
    • You have been told to quarantine or self-isolate, or live/work in a county under government-recommended mitigation efforts.
  • ACCELERATED access unemployment benefits by waiving the one-week waiting period
  • WAIVED work search and work registration requirements
  • MOVED online all access to Unemployment and Workers Compensation services
  • GRANTED relief from charges for tax increases on employers whose employees seek unemployment compensation because of COVID-19
